Diaries, 1827-1855.

Consists of three diaries: 1827 to 1833, 1833 to 1836, and 1850 to 1855. Entries include information on Meigs' weight and health, the weather, daily activities, running the household, gardening, family get-togethers, and notations about people. Meigs described the artisitc endeavors of his son-in-law, Walter Oddie, in some detail. Interested in astronomy, he recorded sightings of Halley's comet and other wonders of the sky along with his desire to purchase a giant refracting telescope. Meigs was also an observer of balloon ascensions.
